The art of reading is not dead - far from it, in reality. Students and other young people are still picking up books and indulging on reading, especially during the summer time. After all, during the summer, there is a lot of uninterrupted time to read. But with all the books you can pick up in the bookstore, which ones will you start with?

If you are feeling lost with regards to which books to read this summer, you can follow this simple guide:

Start reading the books you will study the next school year or semester. Some professors already release the list before summer to give students time to read, especially if it's a thick novel. Before you devote your time to other books, kill two birds with one stone: read a good book and start up on your school reading list. After all, you might become busy again when school work begins to pile up.

Think about the topics that interest you, or hobbies and activities you want to get into. By reading up on them, you learn more, expand on what you know and at the same time, help you start on a new hobby or activity. Also consider reading about places and cultures you would like to visit one day and plan your perfect holiday.

Read the books you have been meaning to read. Before starting on a new list, complete your old lists and read the books you failed to read in the past.

Read other books by your favorite authors. You are already assured that you like the author's style and genre, so why not just finish all the books your favorite author wrote?

Catch up on the classic literature. These books are timeless and have entertained readers for decades. Classics are also full of 18th and 19th century culture - a treat for us of a completely different time.

Consider reading compilations of short stories and poems. You can end up reading on more different topics in a short amount of time. Also, you do not have to worry about not being able to put down a book, since the stories are shorter.

Broaden your book list and your tastes. You never know until you try, if you would like other genres of books. Also, different types of books also broaden your knowledge - for example, reading up on history and famous people will inspire you on these events and people that have shaped our world.

Join a book enthusiasts' group and get suggestions. When you connect with fellow book lovers, you can instantly get great suggestions on books to read. In fact, you can also just swap books with them and read different books without paying a cent.

Summertime is the best time to get lost in a book, or a few. By choosing great ones, you are sure to make this summer memorable and special.
